Conclusion
“I hope that every American, regardless of where he lives, will stop and examine his conscience about this and other related incidents. This nation was founded by men of many nations and backgrounds. It was founded on the principle that all men are created equal, and that the rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened.” ― President John F. Kennedy (Civil Liberties Speech)
The imprisonment of Japanese Americans during World War II into internment camps was a dark chapter in U.S. history, a blatant violation of civil liberties and as such is a vital lesson for us today Through executive order 9066 the U.S. Government failed in it's most sacred responsibility to uphold the constitution and protect the rights and civil liberties of the Japanese American people.
This epic failure did not occur overnight. We see the path which led to it as we look back on the history of Relations between Japan and the United States, inequality in laws of immigration, citizenship/naturalization and land ownership. This tinderbox of prejudice was set ablaze with the "dastardly" attack on Pearl Harbor. We must learn to build a stronger sense of equality.
If we are filled with fear, threatened with tyranny and threatened with war we must not blame an entire race based on the acts of the country of their heritage. We must uphold the values of freedom and liberty. It is our right and our responsibility to learn from the errors of the past to improve the future. We the People of the United States must stand for Liberty and Justice for ALL.
